Published Articles Dinner at Ronald McDonald House
Cooking is often the last thing families have on their mind after a long day and often exhausting day at the hospital with a sick child. Families often don't have the time, resources, or energy to prepare or purchase a meal. So, coming home to a fully prepared meal can make a huge difference.
As part of Westland’s ongoing sponsorship of the Westland room at Ronald McDonald House – South Island, we recently sent a team of volunteers (Rod Quin, Barry Paterson, Raelyn Lourie, Matt Alldridge, Annalese Taylor, Deborah Gill and Linda Bell) to cook a nacho/taco style buffet for the families using the house. It is always a humbling experience to cook for people staying there and to be given the opportunity to hear their stories.
Just to add a little bit of extra fun, we had piñatas stuffed with lollies and toys. The children were more than happy with their hauls, and it’s always amazing to see how much little hands can carry! The most enjoyable part of the evening, for children and adults alike, was meeting Mr. Moo. The Mr. Moo costume (worn by an employee who shall remain anonymous) became an instant hit with the children. He had his tail pulled, attacked with balloons, and was followed around by a couple of dedicated admirers, but handled it with true Westland style and grace.
Westland is proud to continue to support Ronald McDonald House South Island. Thanks to everyone who put their hands up and helped make this a wonderful evening.
