  • Westland tour with USA students

    A group of university students visiting from the United States and given a tour of a farm in Ashburton have left the country impressed with Westland Milk Products.  

    The 34-strong group of students from the Universities of Montana and Wisconsin-LaCrosse and the State University of New York were on a 23-day visit and toured the 270 hectare farm on January 8th.

    The farm is situated 5km north of Ashburton, milks 850 cows per day and is managed by farm manager Kurt Harmer.

    Westland Milk Products (Westland) is delighted to announce the successful applicants of this year’s 2012 University Scholarship Programme.

    Westland Milk Products chief executive Rod Quin says the company was impressed with the calibre of the applicants and congratulated all the students who took the time to enter the scholarship programme.

    “This year’s successful applicants have shown a commitment to their education. We wish them well with their studies and we look forward to providing ongoing support for them,” Quin says.

  • Westland Milk Products Track To Deliver Projected Shareholder Benefits

    Westland Milk Products is on track to deliver forecast benefits from the construction of its new reverse osmosis plant in Rolleston, shareholders were told at the cooperative’s annual general meeting today. 

    Chief executive Rod Quin says; “Our newly built reverse osmosis plant in Rolleston and dryer modifications in Hokitika have positioned us well to deliver a 10-15c per kilogram of milk solids benefit to shareholders this season.”

    The Board of Westland Milk Products is pleased to announce it has unanimously recommended the appointment of Bob Major as independent director of the board, replacing longstanding director and ANZCO Foods founding director Sir Graeme Harrison.

    Westland Milk Products chairman Matt O’Regan says Mr Major brings an impressive 30 years of dairy industry and agribusiness expertise to Westland.  “We are fortunate to have acquired a director of Bob’s calibre whose global dairy knowledge will add significant expertise and depth to the board.”

  • Westland Milk Products Announces Second Highest Payout On Record

    Westland Milk Products announced today its second highest profit on record with a total average payout of $7.80 per kilogram of milk solid (kgMS) less retentions of 10 cents, resulting in a final cash average payout to shareholders of $7.70.

    The result is a 21% per cent improvement on last year’s total payout of $6.45.   The result was achieved on the back of record turnover of $525 million, an improvement on the $422 million recorded in the previous corresponding period.

  • Westland Milk Products Set To Invest In Hokitika Nutritional Plant Upgrade

    Westland Milk Products is set to invest in a new state-of-the art high quality paediatric nutritional manufacturing plant in Hokitika, fast tracking the West Coast-based producer’s ability to satisfy customer demand and produce nutritional products at volume.     

    Westland Milk Products’ planned investment follows the successful completion of its reverse osmosis plant at Rolleston in Christchurch and recent capacity upgrade at Hokitika, both of which are on track to deliver projected targets for the 2011 season.

    I am pleased to advise that Westland Milk Products won the inaugural Leading Lights award for the top Primary Producer in the West Coast for 2011. The Primary Producer category recognised excellence in the primary production sector which has formed the backbone of the West Coast economy. The dairy industry and Westland Milk Products makes a significant contribution to the local community and so it was a privilege to accept the award on behalf of shareholders and employees at an Awards Function held at Shantytown last Friday evening.
