Can you tell us about your journey to win this award?
I began my awards journey in 2022 by entering the Trainee of the Year category. It was an amazing experience where I met industry peers and partners and learned a lot about myself.
In 2023, I entered the Managers category after stepping into a farm manager role. It was a significant step up, but I thought, “What’s the worst that could happen?” That year, I made it to the finals, which was a personal milestone. This experience gave me insights into the standards required, and I decided to enter again in 2024.
My partner Tristan encouraged me out of my comfort zone, and with the support of my farm team and valuable feedback from the judges, I achieved the West Coast Top of the South Dairy Manager of the Year title. I also won the Fonterra Dairy Management Award, Parry Field Lawyers People and Leadership Award, and the Drummond & Etheridge Environmental Sustainability Award. At Nationals, I was honoured to win the Fonterra Dairy Management Award again and the LIC Interview Award.
Winning these awards reflects the effort I’ve put into day-to-day farm management, people and animal care, sustainability practices, and implementing innovative on-farm solutions.
What does winning this award mean to you?
Winning these awards is immensely rewarding both personally and professionally. It’s fulfilling to be recognized for my passion and hard work while proving to myself that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. Representing rural women in the industry—especially while heavily pregnant with my baby boy born in June—is a proud accomplishment.
How do you see the future of the dairy industry over the next 10 years?
The future is uncertain, with challenges like inflation, climate change, and regulations, but I see opportunities for young farmers to lead innovation. Farmers must support each other and stand together for the future of New Zealand farming.
What is a fun fact about you?
If my cows could talk, what would they say? "More pats, more food, Mum!" and “Rude of you to wake me up from my beauty sleep.”
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Growing money trees—lol!
What are the top 3 songs on your tractor playlist?
It depends on the vibe—anything from country to rock to DnB! Let’s just say it would be embarrassing if someone caught me having a full-blown tractor concert.
